NairaShield
Financial security, in your hands.
01 / The brief
Over 50 million Nigerians bank on their phones, and N14.9 billion was lost to fraud in 2023 alone. Build a financial guardian that aggregates several banks into one view, watches transactions as they land, flags what looks wrong, and lets someone shut an account down immediately. A full MVP, not a demo.
02 / The problem
Detection is the easy half. The hard half is the ninety seconds after the alert, when someone is anxious, probably in public, and needs to act before the next debit clears. Most security apps bury the controls that matter in a settings tree, which is exactly where nobody can find them under stress. So the emergency actions came out of settings and onto the surface: freeze a card, lock an account or reach the vault in one tap from the dashboard. Every other architectural decision follows from that. Instant action means the rules live in Cloud Functions rather than the client, because a frozen account has to stay frozen even if the phone is taken.
03 / What I built
- Six feature pillars: account aggregation, real-time monitoring, fraud alerting, instant protective actions, an identity vault, and a financial health score
- Transaction monitoring with rule-based fraud alerts delivered through Cloud Functions and FCM
- Emergency account and card controls reachable in a single tap, with biometric confirmation
- Every alert states the rule that fired and why, rather than asking the user to trust a score
- Encrypted document vault for BVN, NIN and passport, built on Firebase Storage
- 28 screens specified across onboarding, dashboard, alerts, emergency lock, insights, vault and profile
- Specified end to end before implementation: PRD, TRD, user flows, UI design brief and backend schema
